The selection of heat transfer oil is mainly for the purpose of high thermal efficiency, stable, safe and reliable performance, long service life and good economic benefits. It can be considered from the following aspects:

1. If the thermal conductivity is large and the specific heat is high, the thermal efficiency is high and the economic benefits are good.

2. At the maximum allowable temperature, it provides good thermal stability, thermal oxidation stability, and has a long service life.

3. It has a high flash point and spontaneous ignition point.

4. It has as a low acid value and residual carbon.

5. It has suitable kinematic viscosity and pour point.

In general, any kind of heat transfer oil products, especially mineral oil products, its actual maximum working temperature should be at least 10 ℃ lower than its maximum allowable use temperature to ensure a certain service life as well as better safety and economy.. At the same time also need to do the following work:

Avoid excessive oxidation

Because the heat transfer oil is prone to oxidation reaction under the condition of high temperature operation in the heat carrier, resulting in the deterioration of the heat transfer oil, the high temperature expansion slot is protected by nitrogen to ensure the closure of the heat transfer oil system and avoid contact with air, which can extend the service life of the heat transfer oil.

Avoid coking of heat transfer oil

When the operating temperature of the heat transfer oil exceeds the maximum use temperature, the coking phenomenon will quickly appear on the wall of the oil pipe, and the thickening of the coking layer causes the temperature of the oil pipe wall to rise, forming a vicious circle, and explosion accidents may occur at any time. Therefore,strictly control the temperature of the heat transfer oil at the outlet of the heat carrier and shall not exceed the maximum use temperature.

Regularly check leakage points

Strengthen on-site monitoring, ensure that the heat carrier system is intact and does not leak, regularly check the corrosion and leakage of equipment, and timely repair if leakage is found.

Prevent heat transfer oil mixed with water and other impurities

With the heating of the heat transfer oil, the dissolved water quickly vaporizes, and the pressure in the heat transfer oil system rises sharply, which can cause the system to explode when the pressure cannot be controlled. Therefore, the heat transfer oil should be slowly heated before being put into use, put into use,and then the water and other light components in the heat transfer oil should be removed.

Regular sampling and systematic monitoring

For mastering and analyzing the change of the heat transfer oil’s quality and reasons,regularly sample the heat transfer oil operated by the system,analyze and detect the appearance, kinematic viscosity, flash point, carbon residue, acid value, moisture, 5% low boiler distillate temperature and other indicators,and then determine whether it is necessary to properly supplement or replace the new heat transfer oil according to GB 24747-2009.
